Remote control: restart & diagnostics
Restart players remotely, reload content and check a display’s status, version and statistics.
Many problems can be solved without travelling to the screen. On each display’s detail page, you can send commands to the player and see when it last checked in and what it should be playing.
Send a command
- 1Open “Displays” and click the display.
- 2Go to the “Player controls” card and choose the command you need.
- 3Confirm the prompt. The dashboard reports that the command has been sent.
- 4Wait for up to 5 minutes: the player runs the command on its next heartbeat.
- 5Afterwards, check the “Last seen” time under “Status” and, if possible, the picture on site.
The four commands
- Reload playlist: fetches the current content. Your first choice after changing a playlist or schedule.
- Clear cache: discards the cached playlist and reloads the player. Useful if it still shows old content after “Reload playlist”.
- Restart app: restarts the player app, for example if playback hangs.
- Restart device: restarts the whole device. Not every device allows this; in that case only the app restarts.
Diagnostics on the detail page
- Status: “Online”, “Cache” or “Offline”, along with the time of the last check-in.
- Player: the installed version and update state (“Up to date”, “Update pending”, “Update failed”).
- Schedule: the assigned schedule, the fallback playlist and a warning if content does not match the orientation.
- Preview: the content delivered most recently. It comes from the server and is not a live picture of the screen.
- Statistics (7 days): impressions and audience contacts. If contacts are missing, a hint names possible causes in the Bluetooth measurement, such as location services being switched off on the device.
A player without a connection cannot run a command. If the display shows “Offline”, follow “Display shows as offline”. The same commands are also available through the API (POST /devices/{id}/commands, see the API reference).
