Display shows as offline
What the Online, Cache and Offline statuses mean, which checks to run first and what the player shows during an outage.
The player checks in with the server every 5 minutes. If it has not checked in for more than 30 minutes, the display no longer counts as online. That does not automatically mean the screen is black: the status only describes the connection to the server.
What the status means
- Online: the player has checked in within the last 30 minutes.
- Cache: no check-in for over 30 minutes, but a fallback playlist is assigned to the display.
- Offline: no check-in for over 30 minutes and no fallback playlist assigned.
Run through these checks
- 1Open the display under “Displays” and check “Last seen”. If the last check-in was only a short while ago, wait a few minutes and reload the page.
- 2Check power and picture on site: is the screen switched on, is the correct HDMI input selected, does the player have power?
- 3Check the network: does the internet work at this location, is the device still connected to the Wi-Fi? If the player shows “No connection to the server.”, restore the connection and restart the app.
- 4Briefly unplug the player and start it again. If the app does not start by itself afterwards, set up autostart (see “Set up the player”).
- 5If the screen shows a pairing code again or “Device not registered yet.”, the device is no longer linked to an account. Pair it again.
- 6If none of this helps, write to info@oohlemon.com and include the display’s name and the “Last seen” time.
What happens during an outage
- The player keeps playing its locally stored content. Content that needs the internet, such as link slides marked “online only”, is skipped.
- After 24 hours without a check-in, you receive a single email.
- From player version 2.9.1, the screen switches to an OOHLEMON notice after 48 hours without a connection. Older versions keep playing indefinitely.
- As soon as the connection is back, the player checks in again and loads current content.
“Cache” and “Offline” differ only in whether a fallback playlist is assigned. Neither status tells you what the screen is actually showing right now. Assign a fallback playlist to every display under “Setup”: it also fills times when no schedule provides content.
